Airbrush Your 3D Prints: From Basics to Advanced Tricks

We start with a quick overview of basic airbrushing principles and components, and provide tips on choosing your airbrush, compressor, and other accessories. There is also an overview of suitable paints. This is followed by an explanation of basic airbrushing techniques and maintenance. The first half of the course concludes with an introduction to some of the more advanced techniques and detailing. Practical examples are used throughout the theoretical part.

In the second half of the course, you’ll find three standalone sample projects. In a detailed “step-by-step” format, we always describe the complete painting process from a fresh print to a finished model:

• Stargate fighter: a sci-fi model showcasing methods of breaking the visual monotony of a single-colored surface.
• Crystal dragon: a bust painted in scintillating transparent colors.
• Renault FT17 tank quartet: four small-scale models with different styles of camouflage and markings.

All models are printed on a regular FDM printer.
